Climate Week NYC 2024 Activities That You Should Know About

Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together over 600 events and activities across New York ranging from in person, hybrid, or online. Each year, business leaders, political change makers, local decision makers, and civil society representatives of all ages and backgrounds, from all across the world, gather together to drive the transition, speed up the progress, and champion change that is already happening in the climate sector.

Climate Week NYC is hosted by Climate Group which is an international non-profit organization whose purpose is to drive climate action fast. Climate Group hosts the official program during the week that brings together the most senior international figures from business, government, civil society, and the climate sector.

This year, Climate Week NYC will take place from September 22-29, 2024. The event takes place every year in partnership with the United Nations General Assembly and is coordinated by the United Nations and the City of New York.

For anyone unable to attend in-person, Climate Week will stream key sessions from the week that is available on their on demand page. Fully digital events are also included in Climate Week NYC’s Events program.

Climate Week NYC Opening Ceremony

The Climate Week NYC Opening Ceremony is the most highly anticipated moment of the week. The ceremony will be taking place on Sunday, September 22 and will feature major announcements, discussions, and interviews with international leadership from business, government, and the climate community. Some of the recent speakers included Tim Cook, Jacinda Adern, Kathy Hochul, and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

The Hub Live

On Monday and Tuesday, September 23 and 24, 2024, Climate Group will host the Hub Live. These sessions will bring together more than 1,000 of the most influential leaders from business, government, and the climate sector. The key themes include:

  • The New Industrial Revolution: We’re currently going through a shift that the world hasn’t seen since the start of the 20th century. The shift of the fossil fuel-based society to a more green economy will drive a major change not only in corporate energy use, our business models, and the skills needed, but also in the way we build, live, and learn.

  • The Energy and Transport Transition: The global energy system and transportation are some of the biggest global emitters and the corporate sector is playing a major role in the push towards the decarbonization of these systems. With new challenges coming up, it’s important to prepare for them through a more smarter, integrated, net-zero transport-energy framework.

  • Nature, Food Systems, and Health: The power of nature used to reduce emissions and restore health to our food systems must be scaled in order to combat global warming. Climate and health are strongly linked to climate change, as climate change is recognized as one of the largest public health crisis of our time. Success is not only measured in carbon emission reduction but also the impact it has on human lives.

  • Leadership and Green Growth: To accelerate the transition, we need to finance large-scale solutions and technologies. However, funders are often reluctant to invest in solutions that aren’t yet scalable. To overcome this challenge, we’ll explore existing financing options, new models, collaboration between governments and the private sector, and the importance of the transition being fair and just.

This Year’s Climate Week NYC Theme

Even though investments in clean energy and net zero technologies have been higher than ever, 2024 started warmer than ever recorded, following a year that already broke the annual average 1.5-degree C mark. People and companies are being more aware of the fact that we need to act fast as they see the effects of climate change all around them.

However, we’re still not going fast enough, and together we need to break down barriers that are holding us back. Climate Group aims to push for that in 2024. With Climate Week 2024, Climate Group is highlighting inspiring businesses and governments that are driving the momentum forward. Climate Groups aims to convince hesitant companies and governments to start taking action by inspiring them and showing what can be achieved.

Climate Week joins inspiring frontrunners, from the world of business, tech, politics, academia, and civil society, that have the means, the scale, and the power to drive the transition forward and turn those who are not yet going fast enough into action makers. Climate Tech NYC is also a platform for about 600 events across New York City, arranged by people and organizations aiming to push the needle on climate. Climate Week NYC is the event that not only drives climate action by those in business and politics, but also by communities, artists, and activists who want to push towards unstoppable progress and accelerate scalable innovation.
